Travel Tip for Long Haul Travel

Travel Tip for Long Haul Travel

Travel Tip - when traveling on a long haul trip, bring a change of clothes and grab a shower either in the lounge if you have access or there are usually options to pay. Schedule at least a 3-4 hour “recovery” layover
In Amsterdam the Mercure is an in airport hotel that you can get a room or just a shower. Shower is about $25. Pics and video are from my trip back from Kenya.
Why do that? Kenya from So Cal is 20+ hours on a plane. Then you have to factor in the time from when you leave your house, check in, time waiting in airports layovers, etc.
Coming back from Kenya a had a shower right before I went to the airport. It was summer there and the airport was hot.
Going through the airport is a bit crazy. You have to get your bags scanned to enter, laptops out etc. then put everything back and go check in. I was barely overweight on 2 bags but had to pull stuff out. Now im carrying extra things on.
Next clear customs then another checkpoint , shoes off, laptops out, put yourself back together and head to the gate. Then 2 more check points to get in the gate and checked to get on the plane.
Slept a little on the plane. Then I go through another checkpoint when arriving in Amsterdam and now it’s cold because you’ve switched climates.
At this point you feel kind of grimy and a shower is very refreshing and helps to reset you because theres still 12+ more hours of travel to So Cal.
The first time I went to Kenya I didnt do the shower in between and recovering from the jet lag took alot longer. Doing the shower in between makes a significant difference.
Id love to hear if you’ve done this or other travel tips for long haul travel.
