Every week we post a fun fact about Kenya on Social Media. This weeks blog post shows some of those fun facts here on the blog.
Kenya Fun Fact – Nairobi is the capital and one of the fastest growing cities in Africa.
The name comes from the Maasai phrase Enkare Nyrobi, which translates to "cool water", a reference to the Nairobi River which flows through the city.
The city of Nairobi’s population exceeds that of the city of Los Angeles.
The country of Kenya has a population of 52.57 million which is about the population of the state of California and Illinois put together.
Kenya Fun Facts - Tea is the leading export product for Kenya.
Kenya is the third largest producer of black tea after India and Sri Lanka.
Tea is a product that can be Fair Trade Certified or verified. Like any other product Fair Trade Certified or verified means their supply chain has been verified to ensure fair treatment and wages for producers among other things.
One of my favorite Kenya teas is JusTea pictured in the photo. They are verified member of the Fair Trade Federation.
Kenya Fun Facts - Tourism in Kenya is the second-largest source of foreign exchange revenue following agriculture.
It is estimated that COVID has caused a $1 billion loss in tourism revenue.
There are many wonderful places to visit in Kenya. Masai Mara is about 450 square miles of open land where animals roam free in their natural habitat. There are numerous lodges to stay that offer excellent amenities.
The coast offers beautiful scenery, shopping, dining and you can stay at a hotel or Air BnB. You can get there by plane or train from Nairobi. Train takes about 5 hours.
These are places I have personally been to and look forward to returning to again.
