Choose Baskets and Beads for Giving Tuesday

GIVING TUESDAY

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

There are many wonderful non-profits to  consider donating to on and around Giving Tuesday.  I would ask you to review and consider  Baskets and Beads as your non-profit choice this season. The information that follows will outline our work and if it’s in your heart to donate to our small non-profit, know that you will be helping over 100 people including over 30 women and approximately 80 children.

IMPACT OF BASKETS AND BEADS' NON-PROFIT

Dynamic Vision Foundation is the non-profit foundation for Baskets and Beads Kenya. We formed the foundation to provide needed services and supplies to the women of the Kipsongo slum in Kitale, Kenya.

Our big goal is to buy land and build our workspace and warehouse, housing, a farm and possibly a school.

Currently we are raising funds for basic needs such as food, blankets, and other supplies. We also raise funds for school fees and supplies when school is in session.

COVID-19 AFFECTS AND PROVISIONS

As a result of COVID-19, all the markets have been shut since March in Kenya. Normally the marketplace is very busy and our ladies sell their hand-crafted items in the street markets and to all the groups that come through that area to serve. With the shut down, all that income has disappeared along with reduced sales here in the US.

We committed to providing food packs to our ladies throughout this shut down to ensure they had food and provisions and would not have to resort to prostitution to make ends meet and feed their families.

Thanks to generous donations every month we have been able to provide basic food packs for all our women to keep them and their families from starving. I can’t imagine what it would be like to watch my child cry out from hunger and me not being able to feed them.

There are no food pantries, food banks or food stamp programs in Kenya. If you don’t have money for food there, you simply go without.

WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER DONATING TO BASKETS AND BEADS' FOUNDATION?

We are a small non-profit and there are no overhead expenses. All the donation money we collect goes directly to the women in Kenya.

For our food pack program, our director in Kenya - Leila orders the food wholesale in bulk and has it delivered to her house. Then she and Dorcas the group leader in Kipsongo pack it for each family and Dorcas distributes it. We have been doing this since March at the start of the pandemic,

This month for December we are going to get some extra things in addition to the regular food packs if we raise enough funds. The women are in need of blankets and clothing for their children. We would also provide underwear and sanitary pads for the women and young girls.

TAX DEDUCTION

Thank you for considering Dynamic Vision Foundation and the ladies of Baskets and Beads Kenya for your gift for giving Tuesday.

We also have monthly supporters who provide donations every month and are always looking for companies and individuals to donate monthly to support our work in Kenya.
